The owners of a 2016 Dodge Charger contacted the Downey Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen by unknown suspects. Apparently a burglary from vehicle occurred several days prior to his girlfriend and her purse along with the key fob to the Charger was stolen. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Dodge Charger.

Minutes later an officer from the Los Angeles Police Department Northeast Division picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Dodge Charger with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officer requested back up units and continued tracking. Assisting units rolled into the area of Ave 57 and York Blvd where the officers spotted the Dodge. They followed the stolen Dodge Charger to Ave 51 and York Blvd where they conducted a felony “high risk” traffic stop taking the male driver and female passenger into custody without further incident. During the field investigation, a ring of “shaved keys” commonly used to steal vehicles were found.  The male suspect was found to have been convicted on prior vehicle thefts and was later booked for the theft of this Dodge in addition to other charges. The female passenger was questioned and later released.  The victim’s purse was found inside the stolen Dodge along with the victim’s backpack. The Dodge was stored and later released to the victim.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Dodge Charger in December 2015 at Champion Dodge in Downey, California.
