The owner of a 2008 Cadillac SRX contacted the San Jose Police Department to report that their vehicle had been stolen. The Cadillac was taken from the vicinity of S 9th Street and E Reed Street. A spare key was apparently inadvertently left in the Cadillac. The San Jose PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Cadillac SRX.

A short while later, investigators from the Santa Clara County Regional Auto Theft Task Force picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Cadillac with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the investigators tracked the Cadillac and located it parked unoccupied, just a few blocks away from the theft location, in the car port at an apartment complex at S 9th Street and Margaret Street.

Surveillance was set up; a male suspect entered the stolen Cadillac and drove away. Investigators followed the stolen Cadillac until it pulled into a parking lot at Hillsdale Avenue and Ross Avenue and stopped. The investigators were then able to take the suspect into custody without incident.

The Cadillac was recovered and was released to the owner at the scene.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Cadillac SRX in January 2008 at Massey Cadillac in Orlando, Florida.
