The owner of a 2006 Chevrolet Tahoe called the Albuquerque Police Department to report the vehicle was stolen. The owner advised the Tahoe was taken from their apartment parking lot located in the area of Gibson and San Pedro in the Southeast Area Command. The Albuquerque PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJackĀ® System concealed in the Tahoe.

Within a short time after the activation, the Albuquerque PD Auto Theft Detectives and officers, both in marked ground units and Air-5, picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Tahoe with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in their undercover and patrol vehicles and aircraft. The Auto Theft Detectives determined the Tahoe was mobile and while tracking they picked up a LoJack reply code from a stolen Silverado. The Auto Theft Detectives elected to split up and utilized Air-5 to track the Tahoe. The Tahoe drove west and the offender ultimately decided he did not want to be captured. The offender exited the Tahoe and attempted to take off on foot. The offender was not successful as the Auto Theft unit apprehended him and took him into custody. This offender was found to a career auto theft offender and has been arrested by the Auto Theft unit multiple times.

The Tahoe was successfully recovered and a repeat offender was taken off the streets. The owner was notified of the recovery and will be reunited with their Tahoe. The offender was given a ride to the Metropolitan Detention Center with an extension to his rap sheet for this caper.

The LoJackĀ® System was installed in the Chevrolet Tahoe in February 2007 at AutoNation Chevrolet Arrowhead in Peoria, Arizona.
