The owner of a 2002 Ford F150 contacted the Los Angeles Police Department to report that his vehicle was stolen possibly by a suspect wearing a blue shirt and pants with a shaved head. The owner informed the officers that he had parked his Ford at a liquor store and left the key in the ignition noting the aforementioned individual standing near his truck. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Ford F150.

Air Support Units Respond – One Suspect Arrested

A short while later officers from the LAPD Hollenbeck Division picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Ford with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. The officers requested Air Support and continued following the directional and audible cues from the PTC. Flight officers in the LAPD Air-16 responded indicating that they had been following the signal and located the Ford on Broadway and Dailey. They further indicated that the Ford had reached the intersection of Thomas and Darwin where the driver matching the description had fled from the vehicle as well as three other male subjects. The driver was taken into custody by assisting units as well as the other three individuals without further incident. A search of the driver netted the key to the ignition as well as an admission that he had taken the victim’s Ford. The victim was later taken to Central division where he positively identified the suspect. The remaining three suspects were released. The victim’s Ford was released without damage.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Ford F150 in July 2008 at Car Max in Irvine, California.
